Tips for Making Money in Tough Economic Times

Look, I know it’s tough out there.  I know many of the people that read this blog are undergoing tough economic times.  People all over the world read this blog and are looking for ways to make money and increase their income.  This blog post is going to help you do just that but I also want to prepare you for what’s ahead.

First, the economy is not getting better or improving.  The economy is going to get worse – much, much worse.  It’s not that the economy isn’t already bad but right now it’s artificially inflated by the governments so most people haven’t started really worrying yet.  But sooner or later, the debt that is being hidden will rise to the surface and the whole world will feel the effects.  No one is safe.  Not the US, not China, not Germany.  Nobody!

Ok so what is the good news?

The good news is you can now prepare ahead of time.  A lot of people won’t know how bad it will get until it’s already hit them.

Before I start, this whole blog is only my money opinion on what to do and what will happen to the economy.  I’m not a financial advisor.  I’m not a finance professional.  I have no degrees or certifications in financing or business.  I’m some guy that makes money on the Internet.  That’s it!  Again, this is just an opinion so you should consult someone a lot more qualified before taking action on just my opinions alone.  A lot of experts will say I’m wrong!

The 5 Keys to Making Money in Tough Economic Times

First, I’m selling assets I don’t need if they can sell for a decent value.  Ebay is your friend.  Craigslist is your friend.  Local forums are your friend.

If you’re listing on Ebay make sure the price of your item plus shipping is worth the difference after listing fees.

Second, I’m scratching around for extra cash.  Any odd jobs, I’m taking them.  Any time I can work extra hard to make a little bit more money, I’m going for it.  (Just make sure it’s legal and ethical)

Now is absolutely not the time to sit on your ass and be lazy.  Be as hardworking as a beaver that has 100 damns to build.  You want to be productive you.  Bust your ass and save cash!

On that note, save your money.  This is the most important piece of advice I can give you.  Scrimp and save every penny and give up your luxuries for the next 6 months.  Go free on everything.  Eat a little less.  Put this money away in your piggy bank.

Fourth, stop looking for jobs everyday.  By this I mean if you’re on your 5th month looking for a job in the newspapers and online, then damnit do something different.  Less and less companies are going to be hiring so odds are only dwindling that someone will hire you.  Instead of looking for a job everyday, go make your own job.  Offer some kind of useful service to businesses and go solicit them directly.

For example, if you’re a great painter go offer to make a painting for local companies to hang in their restaurant, store, or office.  Show them an example of what they would be getting and say exactly how much you would charge.  Think of ways you can outdo yourself and charge more like getting the picture framed or delivering it in wrapping paper.  BE CREATIVE!  – but also be good at what you’re doing.  Don’t expect to go get out your box of crayons and turn in your 5 minute masterpiece for $50.

Fifth, do not let fear paralyze you!  You need to hustle and hustle now.  Don’t be afraid to make offers, reject offers, and accept offers.  If you aren’t sure, ask people you trust for advice.

I can’t go into every single guiding factor you should consider and take as a grass roots entrepreneur but the point is you should be proactive in making money in 2011.

Also, be sure not to spend a lot of money – if any – to start things up.  The point here is making money and only making money.

The way you make money in tough economic times is to work hard, be creative, and get the job done.  You’ve got to know when to give up on something, when to keep pushing, and when to change the way you’re doing it.

I know it’s a lot to take in and apply but get motivated to make your money.  Times are tough right now for everyone.  If you’re in hard conditions, just remember to stay positive and keep moving along the best you can.  I’m pulling for everyone to make more money this week!
